Hotel Review: Avani+ Luang Prabang Hotel

As neither Marriott nor Hilton have a presence in Luang Prabang, Laos, it was time to make the most of my GHA Titanium status. Regarding the Amex FHR program, there are some luxury options in town such as Amantaka, Rosewood, and Belmond.

Amantaka is located right next to Avani, providing a luxurious experience package right in the heart of Luang Prabang, but it comes with a price tag of $1,000+ per night. Rosewood, 2nd most luxury property at $600 per night, also stands out, but it's quite isolated from the centre, making it inconvenient to discover the old town. Belmond, while slightly more affordable, is situated in the mountains, providing breathtaking mountain views that make it the best option for people looking for a sanctuary of serenity in the mountains of Laos.

After considering these options, I decided to spent two days at Avani to discover the UNESCO world heritage town and then relocated to Belmond for the final day to relax in its serene mountain setting - a perfect end to my time in Luang Prabang.

Checkin :

After an easy 10 minutes drive from the airport, we arrived to this beautiful hotel property. A couple of staff warmly welcomed and escorted us to the lobby for check-in. Welcome drinks and cold towels were provided while we get checked in. After 10 minutes, staff couldn't locate my booking on their system and asked for my booking confirmation on GHA app. After another 10 minutes, staff finally found my booking and proceeded with check-in.

This was my second time booking a GHA property on its app and looks like there is some major bug in fetching booking data from GHA to the participating hotel brands. I experienced the same problem in Pan Pacific Suzhou.

Our benefit as a GHA titanium member included:

1. Early checkin at 12 pm
2. Breakfast for 2 people
3. 2 category room upgrade
4. Late checkout at 4 pm

Room :

There are only 3 room categories in this hotel property:

1. Avani Deluxe Room
2. Avani Deluxe Pool View Room
3. Avani Suite

As a GHA titanium member, I was upgraded to the highest category room, Avani Suite. The video below is the Avani Suite.

The balcony overlooking the mountain view was one of the best features about the suite.

Restaurant :

Breakfast at Main Street Bar & Grill was a surprising bliss. It was a mixture of a al carte menu and buffet. I didn't have any expectation but Most coffees in hotel breakfast are awful, but cappuccino and latte here was really good. French toast is personally a must-try here.

Conclusion:

Regarding the down side, there is really not much to mention aside from the check-in problems. However, this is highly likely caused by some bugs on the GHA app. Booking on the GHA app has a tendency to have problems and this was my second time after the fiasco at Pan Pacific Suzhou.

Despite the earlier problem, this hotel property really felt like genuine hospitality. All of the staff went beyond to make sure our time in Luang Prabang is memorable. Special thank you to the manager, and the front staff Amber, and the driver.
